How To Lose Weight And Keep It Lost

Do you think how to lose weight? If you are like seventy million americans you probably do. Sixty four per cent of americans are overweight or obese, are you one of them and how can you lose weight? Special occasions such as weddings, holidays or a first date are generally the times when we take a look at ourselves and think "hmm, getting a bit round here." The first thing many people do when they decide to trim the fat is to suddenly cut down on what they eat, this is a non starter and totally the wrong thing to do. Crash dieting does not work and on two totally separate levels, on the first level is the physical response of the body to a sudden reduction in intake and the second level is the mind reaction. Firstly lets take the body response. If you arbitrarily stop providing calories to the body it causes the famine alert which is wired into our bodies since caveman days. When food was not a certainty on a regular basis the human body developed an emergency reaction. When food was scarce the body would slow the metabolism, like lifting your foot of the gas to save fuel, this made the available calories go further and then when the hunt produced a large chunk of beef the body would store the extra as fat to be used in the lean times. As you can see this is a two time loser for those who want to know how to lose weight. The body burns fuel more slowly and when there is a surplus it just piles on some fat. If you were a bear about to hibernate this would be okay! But your 'e not. The second level is the brain reaction which is a far harder enemy when it comes to how to lose weight. The brain is a stroppy two year old and when you say it can't have something it only wants it more. It fact it demands it and to show you it wants it the brain will start sending hunger signals out all the time. How do we lose weight while fighting these two incredibly devious foes? The answer is to divert the attention of the two year old and satisfy the metabolism by giving it a reason to shut up and go to work. If you eat on a regular basis the body is happy and the mind will concentrate on other things. You can satisfy the body by eating small, nutritious meals with lots of interesting flavours and different ingredients. Each meal will fit in the palm of your hand and you can eat six or seven times a day. The brain will be happy that you are not depriving it of anything and so will keep quiet. Remind yourself that you are not dieting (deprivation) but eating differently (interesting) and this will help you keep on the healthy eating road.
